Week 1 Follow Up
Sorry in advance for the long winded post...
We hope all the kids had a fantastic time back for their first week. While at times it felt like organised chaos, the first week back went quite well, considering all the new changes we have had to implement to keep Covid safe. Our focus each week is certainly that the kids can enjoy themselves, have fun competing with their teammates, all while keeping safe.
GENERAL REMINDERS - please make sure you come in via the CHECK-IN point each week, as it is necessary that every person attending the track is marked as present. There is potential down the track that we may alter the process, however, the actual checking in will not change, until the government changes their policies. There are also occasional spot checks done by Athletics officials and NSW Police on clubs, so we need to make sure at all times that we are abiding by the current government guidelines, as well as following our Covid safe plan. If you are unable to use your phone camera to scan the QR code, download the evacheckin app instead.
SOCIAL DISTANCING - While on the field, in a helper/assistant capacity, please remember to still maintain that social distancing at all times.
RECORDS - if an athlete breaks a centre record, this needs to be measured and verified by a committee member. If not signed off by a Club Official, it effectively didn’t happen. For newer families/athletes – on each event sheet, the current centre record can be found at the top of the sheet, so a quick check of this by the parent recording the results will let you know if a record is broken.
CANTEEN – Please remember to support our canteen. While the first night didn’t go to plan with our famous chipper having a dummy spit, we are hopeful this will be rectified before next week. Our canteen is the only source of fundraising we do, so your support by purchasing dinner/treats/drinks is very much appreciated. On that note also, this is Cassandra’s last year, so we will be putting reminders out often to seek the assistance of a parent who may be interested in taking over her role – this role is always supported by a number of other committee members, you are certainly not in the job alone.
BBQ – On the sign up website, there is a BBQ spot. Our two regulars, Darren and Pieter, started last year dropping back to only cooking every fortnight due to work commitments. While they were there this week, this means next week they are not. And while Cassandra is amazing in her role in the canteen, cooking chips, cooking the BBQ AND running the canteen all at the same time is just a little out of her reach!!! So for anyone out there without a set role each week – please consider helping out in here. Without the assistance of two people each week to help cook, means no BBQ/chips for dinner and no fundraising for the club.
AGE MARSHALLS/ASSISTANTS/TIMERS/STARTERS/RECORDERS – While the sign up page appears to be working fairly okay, it appears to not be foolproof as some people are registering on there but it is not coming across. Please keep utilising this process, however we will also be doing an old fashioned paper list at the check in point each week also. This will be updated with parents who have already committed to helping in a role, with the gaps showing for spots still available. We will be asking that if a job is full, please look at what jobs are free and we can pop your name down there. According to our official Covid Safe Plan, we can have one official age marshall, who gets to wear the pretty orange vest!! We can then have three age assistants per age group. We also need timers, starters, race recorders each week. We do also still require some Covid assistants. We have the lovely Amanda as our Covid Official – however if there is a week she is unable to attend, we do need others that can assist in this role. If this is something you would be happy to do, please email the club so we can let you know what is required. While we do have our regular race recorders (Christie on the short track and Lisa on the long track), we do need others trained in this role. So if in the next few weeks anyone would like to observe how this is done, please let us know and we can have you help out there. If you are not down for one of these assisting jobs, we do need to ask that you move towards the spectators areas and not wander around with the age groups.
RESULTS – This week's results are now in the system.
SIGN-UP WEBSITE – A little extra to the above with marshalls/assistants/helpers – this website may change week to week. While our first week we combined all boys and girls, next week we are trialling separating the 6’s and the 10’s back into 6G, 6B, 10G, 10B. All other age groups will stay as is at the moment. The combining of boys/girls simply comes down to numbers and parent helpers. If it looks like we can guarantee having four parent helpers with each individual each group, we may separate some others down the track, however some ages have lower numbers and this is just not practical. We will aim to have all current registered parents down in their current roles, so please check in regularly on this. If you have signed up correctly, you will receive an email reminder on the Wednesday before.
Sunday 11 October 2020
Other things to note:
We put the call out for volunteers each year. This year it is even more important that we do our part to ensure our season goes ahead and we all remain safe.
Only one way to enter the field - via the ambulance gate in the carpark.
Only one way to exit the field - directly in front of the clubhouse.
Three designated spectator areas for parents/carers who do not have a volunteer role on the night.
There will be direction signs for foot traffic near the canteen.
We're using signup.com to manage our volunteers this season. Please register using the link below and then select the Friday nights and roles that you can assist with. The system will send reminders about your roster and give you the ability to swap with another parent should you become unavailable.
